Weekly watches - June 14, 2026

This week’s watches include:

Curse of the Mummy’s Tomb (1964) - old hammer flick detailing the consequences of messing with death. Not good, but way better than Revenge of Frankenstein.

Paisan (1946) - Classic war flick. Great to go into as a mini series about WW2 in Italy, some great characters.

Liquid Sky (1982) - this was a first watch for me. The makeup and early look at gender roles and sexuality was really cool. Giallo-esque murder mystery felt very tacked on, but over all really great stylized moved. Tons of fun.

Incubus (1966) - An early William Shatner role. Folk horror fun with demons and sirens— slow paced and excelent vibes.

Nightmare Alley (2021) - Love most of Del Toro’s stuff, but this one was a miss for me. Too time period- could have had more surreal stuff in it. Still- his set design and pacing shine through, and his love of the occult comes through in droves. Classic neo-noire; not weird enough.

Vampyr (1932) - Our star is an OG goth boi with a bad score (needed more bauhaus). It was surreal enough to be a ton of fun: go into it expecting something different than a dracula movie.

The Bride (2026) - See my analysis here!

30 Days of Night (2007) - God I love this movie. Josh Hartnet plays fragile masculinity so well; and even though there are a ton of plot holes (as pointed out by my friends and family) it’s still a ton of fun. It shows the dangers of isolation and exposure and the pain of losing loved ones. We had the chance to watch it in Alaska (albeit during 30 days of day) and it was vibey as hell. Great time and underappreciated. I think it’d made a killing if released in the 2020’s.
